When the Teacher Can’t Be Wrong

In this kind of system, every possible result is made to count as success.

A moment of disagreement is dangerous for the hypnotist: it could interrupt the state. Agreement, by contrast, is useful. “Feel love,” they say—and you do. Now the experience seems to confirm their authority, and they can introduce an explanation that did not originate with you.

Notice the order. The state itself has already been induced through a sequence of instructions, with rapport carefully maintained. You are already feeling something. Even the reported absence of sensation can be treated as an experience.

Then, while you are inside that experience, the teacher supplies the teaching: what you are feeling supposedly means this. And you take the teaching as something you discovered yourself.

That is the moment the door closes.

• You feel love: the practice worked.
• You feel nothing: you found a block, so you need to keep coming.
• You agree: you are becoming aware, so you need to maintain the state by staying.
• You disagree: your ego is resisting, so you need more work. Eventually you may be told the ego can't be removed after all; you should just observe and accept it.
• You cry: your heart has opened. God must be present here, and leaving begins to feel like a spiritual betrayal.
• You laugh: energy has arrived.
• You feel afraid: material is coming up.
• You feel good: you are getting closer to your true nature.
• Nothing happens: you have entered nothingness.

There is no result that could show the teacher was wrong. The teacher is always right.

When a system can turn every possible outcome into a point in its own favor, you are not looking at an investigation of truth. You are looking at a closed loop of suggestion.
